About our project

The problem we solve: The existing and most commonly-adopted surgical technique for inserting implants in our area of research hass been shown to carry up to 50% risk of potential damage on the spinal cord, spinal nerves, as well as major blood vessels. In unfortunate cases, total permanent disability and death can result.

About our solution: We are designing a novel system for bone surgery, which presents a simple, elegant, and low-cost solution with the potential to eradicate the most pertinent issues inherent in existing techniques, based on solutioning from first principles.

We need USD500,000 to support our prototyping work which is extremely critical for getting our product to market. This is the phase when we will have a high burn-rate for resources and funds, as we go through an intense period of product testing to reach our final optimized design. We hope to have some leeway in terms of resources, to be able to bring together the best people, and invest in quality materials and core competencies. While we will continue to be extremely prudent in our spending, the efficiency of our work will very much depend on being able to afford the basic necessities. The funds we obtain will channel into hiring a good team including engineers and experienced consultants, as well as in procuring quality materials and fabrication equipment/services for our prototypes.

I seek understanding from our funders that we may not have much to give back to you at this stage. We understand the challenge of placing trust in the promise of something that has yet to be proven. However, I vouch for the success of our work, and am determined to allow our actions to speak for ourselves. Our project may take on a longer-term horizon given its scale and complexity, but I have great confidence that it will see fruition.

I am Xian Wen and I am both the Founder and Director of Pedinav Pte Ltd, a forward-looking and progressive medical technology startup that specializes in developing innovative surgical solutions.

This will be the biggest project of my life. It will take time but I have absolute faith in this endeavor. It is as much of a priority to me that in the course of our journey towards commercializing Pedinav’s first proprietary medical device, that we earn a good story to tell - one that is compelling in the display of human spirit, and founded upon only the most honorable of ideals and values

I studied Chemical Engineering at Cambridge and MIT, and have work experience in a wide area from business development, sales & marketing, software design to risk assessment and policy development. My campaign hopes to raise sufficient funds to support our early-stage prototyping work for one of our biggest projects yet.

This project carries our ambition of creating something of genuine value, and which will benefit humanity in a big way. The potential impact of our work is immense, and will not only bring enduring benefit to the generations beyond ourselves, but also in a way that is unlimited by geography, age or gender. Our shared vision to save millions from the consequence-bearing risks of spinal surgery, through a relentless pursuit of good design in our product, is what drives all of our team's energy day in and day out. We hope for all the support we can gather. At a personal level, this endeavor will be my life’s work, centered on utilizing my strengths in a way I deem best contributes to humanity, while allowing me to hold true to my beliefs and values, both in outcome and process. 

The strength of many startups may be their good ideas, but understandably most of them suffer from a weak starting position both in financial terms and in bargaining power. It is during this initial starting out phase that much intrinsic value of small-scale startups may be sacrificed in exchange for a helping hand from bigger establishments or deep-pocketed investors. For us, it is a priority that our enterprise be borne out of belief systems that remain unadulterated no matter how the company progresses, and we remain hopeful on obtaining support from those who genuinely want the best for us and who believe in the spirit of our work.
