About our project

The problem we solve: Statistically speaking, one in three people will have cancer in his or her lifetime. Moreover, according to the Journal of Clinical Oncology, up to 44% of cancer diagnoses and treatment plans are incorrect. If there’s any moment in your life when you want to be absolutely certain, it is when you are diagnosed with cancer. It can take weeks or months to reach an oncologist. Imagine the stress, worry and fear of trying to find the right information and the right oncologists when cancer cells are growing exponentially in your body.

About our solution: We offer a seamless experience that not only saves you time and money but also leads to better health outcomes and happier lives. We use the brainpower of the world’s top cancer doctors to improve health outcomes for cancer patients. We give patients 24/7 remote access to quality-verified oncologists. We’re multilingual and HIPAA compliant. Our 75 passionate, curious cancer doctors are trained and practicing at the best cancer institutions in the world. They have incredible expertise and have significantly lowered their rates to help us cure cancer at scale.

Progress to date:

We have initial paying customers who love us.  We raised $64K, partnered with ZERO Prostate Cancer and CancerAid to become a trusted source for optimal cancer care, and are participating in the Inova Personalized Health Accelerator.

How We Help Patients

We challenge the notion that high-quality, accessible cancer care is either unachievable or prohibitively expensive.  We’re working to prove that optimal cancer care is affordable and accessible. We offer a seamless experience that not only saves you time and money but also leads to better health outcomes and happier lives.

How We Help Physicians

We make it easy for providers to offer expert second opinions, phone consultations and clinical trial navigation.  We give our oncologists 70% of our revenues, as well as manage payments, administration, and logistics, as well as provide medical liability insurance.

How We Help Hospitals

Late side effects can occur in new cancer survivors but are often detected by the care team (usually nurses) until they become severe.  The reasons for this are partly because survivors are reluctant to report symptoms unless asked directly about them and also because of time constraints during the annual appointment with the oncologist.  Using a web-based tool and having regular phone consultations with oncologists overcome these barriers.  Our current approach is reactive and inhibits our ability to act quickly.  We have identified a communication gap.

Personalized phone consultations with oncologists and web-based system for self-reporting symptoms helps cancer survivors live longer

How We Help Partners

We can help you achieve measurably better health outcomes for those impacted by cancer, while also reducing healthcare costs. We deliver measurably better outcomes and ROI throughout the care cycle.

Innovation Details

Intellectual Property Summary

We have copyrights on our templates for expert second opinions and library of validated answers.  We have know-how around our process for matching patients with the right doctors, including our evaluation of the doctor’s training, the strength of their institution and research.

Clinical Information

We are raising money to fund a pilot at Inova to prove that we improve health outcomes for cancer patients in a clinical setting.

Regulatory Status

We do not need FDA clearance for our services.

How we will use the funds raised

We will launch a pilot at Inova’s Schar Cancer Institute to gather data and prove that:

  • we increase patient satisfaction scores and adherence/compliance rates;
  • we allow oncologists to see more patients by better preparing stage 0 patients before their initial appointments; and
  • we support the survivorship clinic by measuring/tracking survivors and updating their oncologists on their progress and late side effects of treatments.

Thank You

I have lost family members to cancer. I would have loved to have the certainty that we were doing all the right things to ensure that my family members get the best care possible. SmartBridge Health is the solution that I wished had existed when I was going through those difficult times.
