A Mother walks into a Pharmacy and picks up Amoxicillin, Liquid Suspension, for her 8 year old daughter for an ear infection. The Pharmacist says “give 1 teaspoon, twice a day for the next 10 days” and tells her to keep it in the fridge.
The Mother comes back 5 days later for a refill. The pharmacist has a puzzled look on her face and asks the Mother why she is requesting a refill.
She says, "The medication is finished and I need more for the remaining 5 days. My husband and I were both giving her doses, and some days I couldn’t remember if I gave it to her, so I guess I gave it to her again?”
We Are All Busy
Sorry, this is not a joke. This happens to millions of kids and parents every year, sometimes with serious, even fatal consequences. According to a new research report released by Safe Kids WorldWide, over 67,000 ER visits and more than 500,000 caregivers each year call poison control for child related overdosing.
We have a simple answer to this problem that we want to get out to the world. This is why we are on MedStartr today, to bring it to you.
Founded by Pharmacists, we developed a solution and use it everyday to help our clients prevent child medication overdosing. Our solution is as effective as it is simple.

The Kids MedTracker
The Kids MedTracker 1.0 is a simple tracking tag that goes on the medication. This simple record will prevent double dosing, overdosing and missed doses.
The Kids MedTracker can fit on top of a medicine bottle for easy placement and access, to ensure that the proper dose is given every time, and without duplication.
Additionally, there are quick help sections that:
- list common dose conversions, like how many mls are in a tablespoon
- the Kids MedTracker answers medication questions posed to pharmacists everyday
The MedTracker eliminates drug management issues that result in preventable at home medication errors.
Help us Lower These Scary Statistics:
- A medication error is three times more likely to occur in a child than in an adult, and children are more likely to be harmed by incorrect dosing.
- Overdosing on over the counter medicines can also lead to severe side effects.
- Annually 1 out of every 151 children aged 2 years is treated in an emergency room for a medication overdose.
- An estimated 71,000 emergency room visits for medication overdoses are made annually by children aged < 18 years old.

Our Campaign Goals
The Kids MedAssist MedStartr Campaign is focused on providing a simple way for parents and caregivers to track medicine given to children, and to get our solution into the hands of Pharmacists everywhere. Our goals are to ensure that the Kids MedTrackers will be available for all parents that need them, and increase adherence in the pediatric sector. Millions of children annually miss or fail to comply with their drug therapy which can lead to re-admission and higher healthcare cost. Take part in this initiative to increase awareness in this important issue.
How Our Funds Will Be Used
The proceeds of this project will be used to print and distribute hundreds of thousands of paper MedTrackers. We also will begin the online version and the app called KidsMedTracker. Together, we believe we can reduce the chances of overdose, that now, 1 in 180 kids will experience every year. Let’s make that 1 in a million.

By sponsoring this project, you will not only be advancing this important cause that we know you all experience first hand, but we will send you the MedTracker 1.0, paper versions and sign you up for our newsletter so you can keep abreast of the progress in our application development to bring even more tools to bear for you. We will also place you on our Pharmacists Advisory Council that we will convene regularly to determine usability and criteria for success.

The Stretch Goals
If we raise over $8,000 we will be able to develop the iPhone app and then move on to Android at $12,000.
KidsMedAssist 2.0, the App!
Our App design is dead simple too. We simply will add in a bar code to the Kids MedTracker tag. Then, everytime the parent or caregiver gives a dose, she or he scans the code. This brings up a question, “are you giving a dose?” The user says, “yes” and is done. Then that user or any authorized party can see the updates.
If you choose to be an early sponsor or partner in the application development, part of our Stretch goals, you will be able to run your ads and branding in this free app.
This will improve not just medication adherence, but also accuracy for patients, reducing harm, costs, and absenteeism.
Help Us Accomplish Our Objectives:
- Increase the use of medication management tools
- Decrease preventable at home medication errors
- Create national dialogue about children’s at home medication errors
- Create a passive national kids medication overdose safety surveillance program (similar to VAERS for vaccines) with healthcare provider and parental submission portals
Our Team
We are a team of 4. Two Pharmacists and two IT guys.
Ponle Aboyeji is a pharmacist and CEO and co-founder of PharMed Solutions. He graduated from Northeastern University with his doctorate in pharmacy and has over 10 years of retail pharmacy experience.
Everette Egun pharmacist and co-founder of PharMed Solutions, graduated Northeastern University with his doctorate in pharmacy. With over 5 years of experience in retail pharmacy.
Bruce Posey CTO and co-founder at PharMed Solutions graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering and a minor in Business. Over 12 years of technology experience, with an expertise in enterprise software systems management.
Neal Cauley CTO and co-founder at PharMed Solutions graduated from Western Carolina with a dual major in Marketing & Communication. Neal also attained MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix . In his 9 years at IBM Neal is responsible for driving over 100 million in sales and consultant engagements.
