The problem we solve: (1) Interoperability: Disparate technology systems between providers many which of which are outdated. Paper and Fax machines are still a major means of transfer. (2) Data Security: 93 billion dollars will be spent on information security during the course of 2018. A typical healthcare breach costs a provider about $380 per record and holistically reached an all-time of 6.2 billion industry-wide. (3) Regulation: Healthcare data 04 consists of a mixture of PII, PHI and PCI. Hospitals need to keep this information for long periods of time. It doesn’t appear that compliance will get easier (GDPR). (4) Availability: Healthcare data lives exclusively where we pursue care. Dealing with the bureaucratic process requires persistence. Often transfers are motivated by alleviating burden or liability from an organization.
About our solution: MedBlox is designed to fulfill all criteria that emphasize on the efficiency of an appropriate interoperability which includes a data exchange that is open to everyone, cut across borders and must not be profit oriented. These criteria are the basis of MedBlox interoperable health data system. MedBlox blockchain technology is designed to securely store electronic health records. The platform is built to store, share and sustain electronic health records. MedBlox has been built to store and secure Electronic Health Records (EHR), in a validated, and certified manner. All while leaving the health record owner in complete control. MedBlox ensures data security with complete anonymity, security, and trust to ensure we all play a part in molding the next generation of healthcare innovators. MedBlox has also designed a secured transfer of ownership process to account for the bulk transitions of data from a provider to patient, thereby, ensuring that the future of EHRs is a distributed one.
Progress to date:The MedBlox concept was fully developed in 2017. This year, market, provider, and validity research were completed. The whitepaper is published on the MedBlox website. We are currently pursuing patent applications while continuing app, platform, and data mapping development. We are currently seeking beta partners/testers. MedBlox has been featured on TopICO List, ICO Watchlist, Silicon Prairie News, and Becker's Health IT and CIO Report.

MedBlox enables the free flow of health information in an unprecedented manner of ease and allows a patient, guardian, or health proxy to validate and actively manage one's existing electronic health record (EHR), thus alleviating much of a provider's burden of possession and compliance in the process.
Cost Reduction: Providers stand to save billions of dollars a year by eliminating breach penalties, simplifying compliance programs/auditability, discouraging duplication of effort, removing support expenses for legacy technology and freeing up providers to focus on their true passion of providing care.
MedBlox addresses these pain point by providing a secure and compliant ecosystem that meets and exceeds current HIPAA, PCI, and PII standards. Opting for a patient/consumer-centric permissions engine that complies with GDPR alleviates much of the regulatory burden for providers as well. With Software as a Service, MedBlox, will be able to provide continuous and automatic updates and full-time support for our software. Usually, these are provided on a “Pay as you go” basis.

Medical record systems today are inefficient; they’re targets for fraud and have a high risk of data breaches. In 2016 alone, over 25 million patients were compromised, and hospitals faced over $500 million in penalties under the U.S. government’s readmissions reduction program. A large number of readmissions occur due to poor care coordination caused by siloed EHR systems and varying state regulations. In 2015, 253 health care breaches affected over 112 million Americans, with a large portion through hacking or other IT incidents which have cost American healthcare organizations over $6B in damages.
The MedBlox protocol will be used to prove and designate ownership, provide access to ePHI to verified sources, and create a cryptographic hash from your encrypted ePHI, which is then uploaded to the MedBlox blockchain. This unique hash combined with your private key gives you and other designated individuals such as your doctors or health insurance providers the ability to access your ePHI stored on the MedBlox decentralized server network. With the MedBlox solution, large-scale data breaches will be nearly impossible. A single patient could inadvertently compromise their own information by unlocking it without verifying the source, but the breach would always be limited in scope.
