The problem we solve: -Healthcare communication should be effective -Patients have poor recall and retention -Only 10% of spoken information is remembered correctly by patients -Studies have shown visual reminders and pictures work better -Physicians and healthcare providers NEED better medicolegal documentation of our conversations
About our solution: We have created a HIPAA compliant chat and patient education system. It exists a both a web-app (via browser) as well as an app in both the Apple iTunes and Android Play stores
Progress to date:MVP is complete. We are nearly finished BETA testing the app. It is being piloted in the following practices:
1. New Jersey Pediatric Neuroscience Institute - Morristown, NJ
2. Nouveau Prosthetics & Orthotics - Morristown, NJ
3. Kidney Care of Morris County
4. Advanced Musculoskeletal Centers

How We Address the Mission of The Challenge(s)
Social Determinants Data Challenge Multiple studies have shown that communicating with patients via telephone, mail, and e-mail is ineffective. There are social determinants that affect patients and providers ability to communicate effectively. These determinants may be based on educational level, culture, nationality, race, age and other factors. medEchat overcomes all of these barriers by facilitating: a. communication with patients easily, securely in a HIPAA compliant environment that is smart phone based …all patients have cell phones! b. health care provider recommendations, information, and reminders to patients about appointments, exams, prescriptions that may include video or other content that is easy to understand c. trackable receipt of delivered communications
Access To Care Challenge medEchat provides patient-centric, health information, e-communication all in one place. We created a smart phone based, accountable, mobile and web application (app) that enables: a. patients to access multiple practices through and easy to use texting app on their phone or on a lap top/ desktop b. patients receive pushes (multimedia) from practices in a social media format - Medical providers push posts customized to users based on their specific health needs - Multi-media posts may be: texts, images, videos, and other reminders c. users to receive alerts and notifications about new communications - Scheduled reminders: take medication, visit coming up, etc. d. Information about new medications or treatments available e. companies/ pharmaceutical companies to create a multi-media library within the app for patient education and information, that providers would access and selectively push out
Real Time Results Challenge medEchat will partner with health care providers, practices, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, and all other medical establishments to enable them to maintain a communication and education dialog with patients: reminders, patient education, text-messaging, document sharing. The ability to communicate directly with patients, in a HIPAA compliant manner allows REAL TIME ACCESS to patient information and their results. Preventing delays in care allows health care providers to practice more effectively.
Affordable Choices Challenge medEchat, patient-centric health-based e-communication all in one place reduces costs to patients, healthcare providers, organizations, insurance companies and government programs like Medicare and Medicaid. medEchat would reduce delays in care, endless paperwork, and wasted and unnecessary trips to the Emergency Room. Patients and providers could chat instantly, share pictures, videos and results in real time within a HIPAA compliant environment. Additional features allow real time video chats, which may be helpful for millions of patients and providers. Telemedicine consults and evaluations are facilitated in a private and secure manner, which is what health care providers and patients need now.

Competitors
MedEchat straddles two markets, both of which have numerous players; HIPAA compliant texting/messaging, and Patient Education Content providers.
However, there are no companies found to date that combine BOTH markets in one place – and for multiple practices.
HIPAA Compliant Text/Messaging major players
Patient Education Content Providers
Though the above companies, among others, are dominant players in their respective markets, none of them combine messaging and patient education material, reminders, notifications, all in a Social Media type environment as MedEchat does.
Traction
Piloting in several practices to date. Convertible to regular customers at end of pilot period
