No existing application enables users scroll through and select urgent care and emergency rooms by outcome data. The need for emergency or urgent care can be unexpected and sudden. Blindly heading to the nearest ER without regard to quality of care or wait time is disconcerting and furthermore result in poor care & poor experience. This is accentuated when travelling and in unfamiliar surroundings. Access to such data is also likely to improve patient care outcomes.
A mobile app with a searchable and sortable list of ER/UC facilities would be of great convenience for users in need of urgent care. Aside from allaying anxiety related to choosing a care facility, such an application would enhance outcomes by helping patients choose the best ER/UC in their vicinity. Best ER as measured by care outcomes including Time taken to
For urgent care it would be helpful to choose and visit the facility with the least wait time. Having the user complete their intake form on their mobile ahead of the visit or while waiting in the ER/UC is also likely to load balance and alleviate stress to the front desk staff.
Care52 is a web & mobile-based application available 24/7 and 52 weeks a year that allows any user to quickly find and connect with urgent or emergency care services. It is well suited for sub-acute emergencies and other urgent conditions not requiring a 911 call or ambulance ride, which constitute about 70-80% of ER visits and all of UC visits. Several other features listed below are expected to provide significant value and enhance patient experience.
The 2001 Institute of Medicine report, Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century, called for reforms to achieve a “patient-centered” health care system. The report envisioned a system that is “respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values, and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions.” A report by McKinney & Company found that 69% of total healthcare costs are heavily influenced by consumer behaviors. Another by Hibbard and coauthors studied the relationship between patients’ activation scores (an assessment of the knowledge, skills and confidence essential to managing one’s own health and healthcare) and their health care costs at a large health care delivery system in Minnesota. In an analysis of more than 30,000 patients, they found that those with the lowest activation scores incurred costs that averaged 8 to 21 percent higher than patients with the highest activation levels, even after adjusting for health status and other factors. Our hypothesis is that Care52 app is likely to reduce ER usage and direct those requiring ER services to the best facilities enhancing outcomes such as following heart attack stroke and other acute medical conditions.
No FDA approvals are required to the extent of our read of the FDA guidelines here
“Time is Myocardium” and more recently we recognize that “Time is Brain”. Patient recovery following heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular events is a direct correlate of timeliness of testing and institution of targeted intervention such as angioplasty for heart attack and thrombolysis for acute stroke. By directing patients to the best facilities is likely to reduce complications, aid recovery and maximize the likelihood of the best possible outcomes.
We help patients find and connect with the best ER and Urgent care in their vicinity. Following care patients download their medical information and share with their care provider for follow up care.
We help market the facility and drive patients to the best centers. Patients check in remotely a convenience for both the patients and facility.
We help hospitals advertise their wait times and care outcomes. Furthermore by enabling patients check in on the hospital website and remotely allows load balancing and prevents crowding at the check in desk.
