About our project
Breast cancer patients go through a great physical and emotional journey. Although each journey is unique, we have seen many common behaviors: these patients journal, they take before and after photos, they attend support group meetings, they go to chemotherapy and radiation, they have surgical procedures, and so on.
The Road to Recovery app will be created to give patients a central location to keep track of all of these things.
The Road to Recovery App:
The Road to Recovery app will help women track their progression and life with its unique home menu that will consist of: their Contacts and Calendar as well as a Help and a Support page. The app will be designed for both iOS and Android platforms and available to users for $.99 via the app store.
The Contact List:
The Contact list will be an abbreviated version of the phone’s contact list with extra fields such as notes, work hours, etc. This way, women can identify and keep track of the people important to their diagnosis and treatment progression.
For example, women who have multiple doctors with different availability times can make note of that in their phone, in a convenient spot underneath the doctor or clinics phone number and address!
The Calendar:
The calendar will have various elements that help women to organize.
Patients will also be able to add a journal entry or any file to the date. This gives patients the flexibility to track information using more than just text. Women can attach notes about their doctor or prescription, photos and pictures of scans, or PDFs to their appointments and journal entries.
It’s a great way to remember which doctor prescribed what or to keep track of their advice! Each calendar day will also feature a quote from a famous woman in history to help inspire.
How Women will Benefit from the Road to Recovery App:
It is proven that patients who find a healthy release for emotions have a heightened quality of life. We hope that our Support links and other features of collecting photos and journaling will allow more women a cathartic release.
In addition to the release of anxiety that comes with self expression and communicating with others in a similar situation, the app will ensure that patients feel more in control of their care. This empowerment can benefit women during a time defined by seeming chaos.
How the Road to Recovery App will Benefit Doctors & Hospitals:
With so many appointments to keep track of, there is a great possibility that patients will miss an appointment or two. This app will help doctors ensure their patients don’t miss crucial appointments and that their practices run more efficiently.
Where the Money will Go:
The money we raise will be used to complete designs and develop of the app for both the Android and the iPhone. Additional features we would like to add are the ability to send appointments to your google calendar (to be viewed from any device) and share photos or journal entries on social media sites like Facebook.
We would also love for our app to eventually extend out to all patients in recovery or going through long term treatments.
Who We Are:
AdoriWear is a family run business based out of Central Pennsylvania. We manufacture and sell post surgical compression wear for patients recovering from breast surgery. Our front closure bra designs go beyond the typical black, white and gray options. They are made out of fashion fabrics that rotate on a seasonal basis. We started our business 6 months ago because we saw a need and we sincerely wanted to help. Although this app will not be directly related to our business mission, it does relate to our underlying goal to help relieve the stress of recovery as much as possible.
